2nd November 2018
Last week I went to Melba Hall, Melbourne University to listen to a wonderful young pianist, Alexander Hazelbank, giving his final year recital in his B Mus degree where he has been studying with Professor Ronald Farren-Price.
I was thrilled that he included one of my recent pieces, an etude called Dangerous Fun. He played it with much heart and flare. I was very impressed.
Here is the program:
György Ligeti - Étude no. 10 ‘Der Zauberlehrling’ (1994)
Ludwig van Beethoven - Sonata in B flat Op. 106, ‘Hammerklavier’
I. Allegro - II. Scherzo (1818)
Frédéric Chopin - Nocturne in E flat Op. 55 (1843)
Johannes Brahms - Scherzo in E flat minor Op. 4 (1851)
Kate Reid - Étude, ‘Dangerous Fun’ (2017)
Sergei Prokofiev - Toccata in D minor Op. 11 (1912)
He said about the piece: “Dangerous Fun became a close friend of mine over the semester…. a real joy to perform and to study”
